Katayoon Majd, the former Senior Staff Attorney for the National Juvenile Defender Center, has joined the Public Welfare Foundation as a Program Officer for Criminal and Juvenile Justice.
Majd has had significant experience working on juvenile justice reform issues. She also pushed for alternatives to formal court processing and worked to improve defense representation for youth in delinquency cases.
Prior to joining NJDC, she was a staff attorney for The Children’s Law Center where she represented children in dependency cases. And as a Racial Justice Project staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California, she specialized in educational equity advocacy, combining litigation, community organizing, policy reform and public education strategies.
She received her B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She also received her J.D. from Stanford, where she was co-chair of the Public Interest Law Students’ Association.
She will work with Program Officer Seema Gajwani to advance the goals of the Foundation’s Criminal and Juvenile Justice program, including reducing incarceration rates and addressing racial disparities.
