Leanna Commins joined Public Welfare Foundation in 2023 as Senior Communications Associate, assisting the communications efforts to increase the impact of the Foundation and its grantees.
Before joining the Foundation, Leanna spent much of her career in the non-profit space, most recently serving as the Communications Manager for the MacArthur Justice Center (MJC), a non-profit law firm dedicated to vindicating the rights of those marginalized and harmed by the criminal justice system. There, she built up MJC’s communications capacity, revamping its digital presence across platforms.
Prior to her work with MJC, Leanna worked at In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda, the Lupus Foundation, and Center for American Progress.
Leanna is an alumna of Howard University with a B.A. in journalism. Shortly after graduating, Leanna worked as a journalist with words in Billboard, The FADER, The AFRO, and more.
